What skills and experience we're looking for

Assistant Headteacher (Specialising in Teaching and Learning)

Barr Beacon School, Old Hall lane, Walsall, WS9 0RF

Salary: Leadership Scale L11-L16 Start Date: September 2024

Could you be one of our new Assistant Headteachers? The successful candidate will be joining us at an exciting time in the school’s journey and will hold a responsibility in Teaching and Learning.

You may already be in a senior leadership position or you may be an experienced middle leader with a proven track-record of success, who is ready to have a whole school impact. As the newest members of our team, you will be learning what it truly means to be a leader from an inspirational team with a history of leading outstanding provision at our school and transforming underperforming schools.

Our new Assistant Headteacher will, of course, be an exceptional teacher in their own right. A leader cannot credibly evaluate the performance of others without having an incisive knowledge of ‘what works’ in the classroom themselves. They will share our relentless drive for improvement, using the latest research to further improve the daily classroom experience of our pupils.

We invite you to join us and model best practice, drive whole school priorities and take our success further. If you have the talent, ideas and vision to be part of our future, we would love to hear from you.

The word ‘outstanding’ appears a lot in advertisements for teachers – but at Barr Beacon School, it means more. With over 1000 requests for the 252 places available in Year 7 this September, parents would certainly agree. When Ofsted last visited, they merely confirmed what we already knew.

How have we achieved all of this?

Quite simply, we employ teachers who are as ambitious, passionate and dedicated as we are. These amazing people work hard – in fact they work very hard – to ensure that our pupils make the best progress they possibly can.

Whether they are the most able or or the least able, the most advantaged or the least advantaged, every child deserves nothing less than the very best teaching.

Not surprisingly, there’s a real buzz about the place. If you would like to be part of it – and teach children who genuinely want to learn – we would love to hear from you.
