Facilities Manager / Site Manager job summary

Overview:

The Site Manager will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the school site, ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. They will oversee the maintenance, cleanliness, and security of the premises, while also managing contracts and contractors as necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the school site, including maintenance, security, and cleanliness.
  • Conduct and ensure regular inspections of the premises to identify any maintenance or health and safety issues and take appropriate action to address them.
  • Coordinate and oversee all maintenance and repair work carried out by internal staff or external contractors, ensuring it is completed to a high standard and within budget.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and any health and safety incidents or concerns.
  • Develop and implement procedures for emergency situations, such as fire drills and evacuations, and ensure all staff are trained appropriately.
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and contractors, including negotiating contracts and monitoring performance.
  • Oversee the security of the premises, including the implementation of security systems and procedures to safeguard against theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and other relevant legislation, keeping up to date with any changes or new requirements.
  • Act as a point of contact for staff, students, parents, and visitors regarding site-related issues or concerns.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of school events and activities that may require use of the premises outside of normal operating hours.
  • Maintain a 5 year site development plan and engage in business planning processes as appropriate
  • Wider, active engagement with the Estates profession across the Trust, sharing best practice, knowledge and skills to the benefit of the organisation as a whole

Person Specification:

Experience:

Previous experience in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting or similar environment.

Knowledge:

Excellent understanding of health and safety regulations, premises management, and maintenance procedures

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications in facilities management, building maintenance, or a related field.
  • Membership of professional organisation such as IWFM
  • Desirable is a relevant qualification in H&S such as NEBOSH,IOSH

Flexibility:

Willingness to work flexibly in terms of location and hours with an ability and willingness to respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours when required.

Team Player:

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across different departments and levels within the organization.
